Graphic design and art direction for books and magazines, primarily on hobbyist subjects. Past projects have been books on topics including amateur astronomy, baking, jewelry design, making pasta, landscape design, faux finishing, artisan textiles, felting, decorating cupcakes.... and even surfing (waves, not internet). Magazine projects include a new special interest publication for Spirituality & Health magazine (The Soul/Body Connection), redesigning ForeWord Reviews magazine, and creating an SIP for Scientific American. I've also written a few books on fine crafts and decorating desserts (1000 Artists' Books with Peter & Donna Thomas for Quarry Books is my most recent, June 2012), and my craft/decor designs have been featured in many books and magazines.

I art direct and produce Spirituality & Health magazine with hands-on design, illustration direction, and photography commissions, ensuring that S&H's holistic message is communicated well through images and presentation across platforms.Also, at Primitive Quilts & Projects (another Good Harbor Media title), I managed a photographer and 2 graphic designers to produce quarterly magazines, including photo styling, prop craft design, and publication redesign, as well as ongoing image color correction and location scouting.

Assigning illustration and photography commissions from remote locations. Selected as curator/judge for They Draw and Cook's first "hand-picked" prompt.

Creative director at Sky Publishing, publishers of Sky & Telescope magazine as well as books, products, and other newsstand magazines serving the amateur astronomer. I supervised a team of graphic designers, illustrators, and a photographer in producing high-quality publications available world-wide. I was the editor of the 2004-2007 editions of Beautiful Universe, Sky Publishing's annual newsstand pictorial containing the most awe-inspiring images of the universe. I was also a member of the board of directors for two years.

Originally employed as a Graphic Designer, I was promoted to Publications Director soon after being hired. I was responsible for the design of all publications of the Office of External Affairs, including college viewbooks, alumni magazines, invitations, and special event collateral materials. I also supervised the Campus Writer. Heh: designers supervising writers.... pigs are flying now!
