Provide research and evaluation consulting services to private sector, nonprofit, and government clients. Services include development of strategies to measure organizational processes and outcomes; creation of measurement instruments (e.g., surveys and structured interview guides); data analysis; data interpretation; report writing; and development of research-based recommendations to improve organizational efficiency, effectiveness, and other desired outcomes.

Provided research-related services to businesses, including consulting firms and marketing research companies, on a variety of topics in both the public and private sector. Recent public sector projects included background research and literature review for a study of prescription drug courts, as well as research methodology and data analysis for a study of judicial sentencing practices conducted on behalf of a non-profit organization. Recent private sector projects included the coordination of consumer product testing studies and multiple surveys measuring consumer preferences and customer satisfaction for department stores, grocery stores, and manufacturers of consumer products.

Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission provides legislative oversight for the Virginia General Assembly. Studied the effectiveness and efficiency of various state agencies as well as state programs and policies created by the Virginia General Assembly. Topics of study included the Port of Virginia, the Virginia Line of Duty Act, and local government consolidation incentives. Responsibilities included all aspects of the research process, including methodological strategies, survey design, data collection, data analysis, formulation of recommendations, report writing and preparation of briefings given to state legislators. Findings from studies used to make changes to state programs and Code of Virginia to improve state government in Virginia.

Transformation Systems, Inc. (TSI) is an executive strategies and management systems consulting firm. Assisted TSI with several evaluations of Virginia’s drug court system for the Supreme Court of Virginia and a cost-benefit study for a local drug court. Responsibilities included meetings with stakeholders to develop research strategies, assistance with MIS design, the creation of data collection protocols, data analysis and interpretation, and report writing. Study results used to identify strengths, weaknesses, and recidivism rates of drug court programs across Virginia. Study findings also used to secure additional funding for those programs that were achieving positive results.

Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) plans and implements programs and initiatives to improve the effectiveness of Virginia’s criminal justice system. Studied effectiveness of various criminal justice programs and policies. Co-led a study of Richmond’s juvenile justice system that won a national award from the Justice Statistics and Research Association in 2000. Other projects included studies of victims’ rights legislation, school safety issues, juvenile justice treatment programs, youth gangs, and juvenile drug and alcohol use. Responsibilities included research design, survey development, data collection, data analysis, development of recommendations, report writing, presentations to Virginia General Assembly committees and other stakeholders, and general project management. Research findings used to improve criminal justice programs and identify programs with positive outcomes for future funding purposes.

Served as a research assistant on a study of hypertension, diet, and stress among African-American adolescents in Department of Nephrology. Responsibilities included recruitment of study subjects, testing, data collection, data analysis and report writing. Also contributed to research on patient satisfaction with managed care organizations and the recruitment of pharmacy students in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutics. Responsibilities included research methodology, survey design, data analysis, report writing, and presentation of research findings to department staff and students. Taught a course in communication skills and patient counseling to PharmD students.

Taught Experimental Methods in Psychology and Social Psychology in the Department of Psychology. Also served as a teaching assistant for Statistics in Psychology.
