From Harvard/MGH neuroscientist to internationally recognized serial entrepreneur, digital imaging expert & visual effects (VFX) pioneer, Dr. Barry Sandrew has over 37 patents and decades of feature film & TV accomplishments including productions for all the major Hollywood studios, TV networks & several cable networks.Β In 1987 Sandrew invented digital colorization. Between 1987-1993, he colorized over 250 films, 180 TV episodes & 70 cartoons. He also produced all color, compositing & VFX for Spielberg's first digital animated feature, We're Back: A Dinosaur Story, Gahan Wilson's animated classic, The Diner, the Fox TV series, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, as well as VFX for the ABC miniseries, War and Remembrance and the John Lennon documentary, Imagine.In 2000 Sandrew re-invented colorization, founding Legend Films. There he produced 150 films for the Legend Films'​ library & colorized films for Fox, Sony, Universal and Paramount. Barry also produced VFX for Scorsese’s The Aviator, HBO’s Entourage, the CBS Sports Special, Jim Nantz Remembers Augusta: The 1960 Masters, the CBS Specials, Lucy Goes To Scotland & The Italian Movie & the ESPN Sports Special, The Greatest Game Ever Played as well as many other high profile productions. In 2007 Sandrew invented a process for converting 2D films to 3D, changing the company name to Legend3D. Beginning in 2010, Sandrew oversaw creative & technical teams in the 3D conversion of Alice In Wonderland, the Shrek Trilogy, Transformers & many more tent-pole films at the height of the 3D phenomenon. In subsequent years the teams Barry Sandrew led have worked on the 3D conversion & VFX of more than 65 of the highest grossing 3D feature films of the past 15 years.Dr. Sandrew is currently Managing Director of the Innovation Hub at Westcliff University where he initiated and hosts the University's Distinguished Innovator Speaker Series. He also created the IGNITE incubator on the Westcliff campus and continues to engage the University within the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem while building an entrepreneurial culture on campus. With a vast network within the entrepreneurial community, Sandrew is a frequent lecturer and thought leader on the Lean Startup Framework made popular by Erik Ries. His consulting practice has been instrumental in achieving an 80% success rate in startups. Currently, Sandrew is applying his entrepreneurial talent, tech innovation and exec management skills to reimagine the 21st Century classroom via Artificial Intelligence and his latest AI patent, The Socratic Metric (May 21, 2024).
