Sandro Fiore, Ph.D., Associate Professor at the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science (DISI) of the University of Trento where he leads the High Performance Climate Informatics Laboratory and lecturer at the School of Innovation (Trento). His research activity focuses on big data, data intelligence, sustainability, provenance and scientific data management for climate change in extreme-scale HPC, distributed & cloud environments. Formerly at the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change Foundation, he has been Director of the Advanced Scientific Computing Division (2014-2018), Head of the Data Science Research Team (2006-2020) and P.I. of the Ophidia project (2012-2020), a research effort on High Performance Data Analytics for eScience.He has been Visiting Scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Lab (2011-2013) working in the context of the Earth System Grid Federation and at the University of Chicago (CS Dept, 2019) working on provenance and computational reproducibility. Since 2004, he has been involved into several national and EU projects working on scientific data management topics, including contributions at large-scale like in the EU EESI and the EXDCI exascale projects. From 2004 to 2012, he taught 8 Master Degree courses on Data Mining, Database Systems and Parallel Computing as contract professor at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Salento, Italy and in the a.y. 2019-2020 contract professor in Big Data and Computer Science at the same University. He teaches Software Engineering and HPC for Data Science at the DISI Department of the University of Trento. As lecturer at the School of Innovation (Univ. of Trento) he teaches courses on Data Science, Data Governance and Business Analytics.He is member of the Data Task Force of the European Network for Earth System Modelling, UNITN representative in the Executive Board of ICDI, local director of the CINI HPC-KTT Lab, member of the EGI Project Advisory Board, and Member of the CMIP7 Data Access Team. He has also been IS-ENES representative in the EGI Council (2020-2023).He holds about 20 years experience on data management topics with a comprehensive knowledge on database systems, scientific computing, big data and data science. During his career, he has developed scientific and technical skills as well as management, financial and fund raising capabilities. He is author of about 100 scientific papers, editor of the book “Grid and Cloud Database Management” and co-author of "The International Exascale Software Project roadmap". He is ACM and IEEE Member.
