Sandro Micallef is the Head Communications and Press at the Authority for the Integrity in Maltese Sport.He is a former Sports Events Producer and Sports Journalist from Malta. Born on 3rd June 1980.He was assigned several live sports commentaries for Television Malta and before for Melita’s Sports Channel and also for Net TV.He is a former TV producer, TV Presenter and former President of the Malta Sports Journalists Association. After having been educated at De La Salle Collage he moved on to read a Communications and Sociology degree at the University of Malta. He started his career in media in 1995 aged 15 years as an assistant news reporter at Smash TV. He then moved to Bay Radio 98.7FM where he worked as a newscaster. At the age of 17 he was employed as a part timer within Media.link Communications as a reporter for in-Nazzjon (a Maltese political Newspaper) when he used to report Parliamentary sessions and football matches. In October of 1997 he was asked to join the Production team of Extra Time which was a local football TV programme broadcast on Net TV. After that he moved in the production team of popular TV show Replay. He then moved to Melita Plc, where he used to do several live sports events commentaries and produced all programmes for the company's Sports pay TV channels, namely UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Bundesliga, Primera Liga, WWE, Formula 1, Malta BOV Premier League, traditional Regatta and many other events. At Melita Plc, Micallef was involved in the set up and launch of Malta's only sports dedicated channel (at that time) ie) Malta Stars which used to broadcast 24 hours round the year live and delayed coverage of Maltese sports namely, Football, Basketball, Handball, Boxing, Snooker, Water polo, Billiards, Rugby, Motor Sports, Poker and much more.Sandro Micallef was eventually assigned the role of Sports Acquisition Executive within Melita Plc a role that required Micallef to focus more on the quality and content of the product, thus forcing him to miss some important local football fixtures due to his administrative commitments. In the role of Sports Acquisition Executive he was successful to secure the exclusive TV rights of Formula 1, Champions League, Europa League, Liga, Bundesliga, ATP Tennis and WWE for Melita for the seasons 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12. During this period he had the opportunity to work alongside with TEAM and UEFA officials together with Sky, RAI Trade, Sportsbrand, MP Silva, Greenlight, Sportfive, Infront, Premier League, and Pitch amongst other TV rights agencies.
