As a designer who is fascinated by our physical & natural world, I strive to be a 21st century multipotentialite. Empowered with an academic preparation of Art, Architecture & Industrial Design, a design career began within Irwin Toy - Irwin Sports which led to forming SZID Inc, an Industrial Design consultancy for a diverse range of clients including: Spin Master Toys, Cervelo Cycles, CBC and Toyota. During the economic downturn of 2007, I co-founded the Effbë company with a line of sustainability minded environmental products to promote composting and recycling, selling into big box and hardware retail. An exciting pitch to CBC’s Dragon’s Den led to aligning with business collaborators Arlene Dickinson and Jim Treliving for a deal which propelled sales into over 4,500 retail stores including Home Depot, Loblaws, Home Hardware and all Walmart Canada locations.In 2018 SZID Inc transitioned to a collaborative Design & Research studio in order to venture toward more exciting business opportunities and collaborations to reach more meaningful innovation work as a proponent for Life Centric Design.As a youth mobilizer, I continue to teach within OCAD University, Humber College, Seneca and Loyalist College focusing on the many facets of design, user experience, creativity, business strategy, qualitative research, innovation, sustainability, manufacturing, service design, entrepreneurship and design foresight.As a designer, educator and business collaborator I am blessed with these wonderful forces which help me to contribute to solving greater global challenges, help to lead future youth leaders and live a more authentic and purposeful life.
