I spent almost a decade in the Air Force as an Aircraft Hydraulics Systems Mechanic. During this period of my life I gained an extensive understanding of troubleshooting, problem solving, teamwork, and communication, (which translates into the software world well), as well as, hydraulic maintenance. I worked my way from a trainee, to apprentice, through journeyman, and all the way to the craftsman level. I am used to working in a fast-paced environment under strict guidelines and managing multiple projects with deadlines. I have experience working as part of a team to accomplish a shared goal, as well as, taking the lead and supervising groups over different projects. While I found this job to be fulfilling, computers and coding is where I spent my free time and where my real passion was. After almost a decade I decided to leave and follow my passion. I was able to slowly work towards an AS in Computer Science while still enlisted and use that as a stepping stone to getting my BS in Computer Science after getting out. While working towards my bachelor degree in computer science, I learned valuable skills in the world of software development. I collaborated with different groups throughout my years in school to work on several projects including: - Creating complex thread messaging API with C++.- Utilized and trained a CNN to detect non-verbal cues in faces, eyes, hands, and mouths with over 90% accuracy.- Engineered an automated IoT gardening system utilizing a RaspberryPi with Python, MySql, Apache, and PHP.My coursework focused a lot on the theoretical side but I chose to take a lot of courses that focused on database management and design, coding using languages C++ and Python, and several courses on web design. Since graduation I am spending every day learning new frameworks, learning how to use several cloud technologies and industry tools, and honing my programming skills with various languages as well as learning new languages when the need arises. I love to learn and can't wait to find my place in a team in the industry.
