I trained and worked as a Dietitian in Washington, DC, Philadelphia and Boston Children’s Hospitals prior to getting married in 1986 and moving to England.I co-developed a health, weight and lifestyle computer toolbox, ProHealthClinical, that is used in Tier 2 (Community-Based Weight Groups), Tier 3 (Specialist Multi-discipline Weight Teams and Tier 4 (Bariatric Teams). It provides both a powerful database and a range of clinical tools that improves weight management outcomes and makes reporting of outcomes quick and easy. It is used in NHS weight management programmes by a range of practitioners (health trainers, fitness instructors, health care assistants, nurses, dietitians, GPs and Consultants). An independent British Heart Foundation funded pilot in primary care demonstrated that patients seeing practitioners using the tools lost over three times the weight as control patients. It is listed in the Department of Health, Directory of Obesity Training Providers. I have worked as a clinical dietitian in primary care for over 20 years and with a range of primary care and NHS specialist obesity centre weight management programmes in the U.K. I have developed and worked with a number of NHS patient and Hospital employee adult weight management programmes in the U.K. winning awards from the RCGP, ASO and NOF. A primary care group programme I developed is listed in the NHS alliance Commissioning Report as an example of best practice in primary care. I have given a number of weight management presentations to NHS, academic, commercial organisations and fitness professionals including:- SCOPE School (World Obesity Society), Cambridge, Westminster Food & Nutrition Forum – Next Steps for Obesity Policy, London and Nursing In Practice Conference, Peterborough.
