I hold credentials to teach grades K-12 and practice as a credentialed librarian in California Public Schools. Promotion and support of public education with an emphasis in library-media practices and visual and performing arts are my focus. I have a passion for writing curriculum and for supporting THE CLASSROOM. In 2011, I was a cowriter of the Instructional Media Resource Associate Certificate Course of Study at the San Diego County Office of Education. Over 500 IMRA certified individuals now serve students and staff in school libraries all over California. IMRA2 is now complete and the first cohort is being taught. I am very proud of the accomplishments of IMRA and those who have become certified. Professional Development for ALL those who work with students in public schools (not just those who hold a teaching credential) is absolutely essential and is lacking. And I am endlessly proud to call myself an educator and NBCT. Working in Colonial Williamsburg, George Washington's Mount Vernon, and the National Gallery of Art were highlights of my life. Teaching people is also a passion. I loved my career in education and continue to be actively involved. My involvement with AVID and the National Baccalaureate Program are also sources of pride. The education system is failing students in Borrego Springs. I also believe our Superintendent of Public Instruction should visit schools randomly and not just the high achieving, Blue Ribbon, highly recognized schools in California. I have worked in Sacramento and in Washington, D.C. with legislators- in an effort to improve public education throughout the country. I have endless energy.
