As a qualified IDI - Intercultural Development Inventory Administrator, I have the honour of working with people who want to understand their current intercultural skill set and how to acquire and enhance that skill set in order to be part of antiracist change actions in their lives. I am also so lucky to work with the team at Purcell Collegiate, led by Duncan MacLeod. Purcell Collegiate School (PCS) is building a world-class international boarding school in Kimberley, British Columbia. The school, Purcell Collegiate School, will be licensed as a Group 4 Independent School under the BC Ministry of Education classification system. The school will employ BC-certified teachers and deliver the world-renowned BC curriculum to international and Canadian students in grades 7 – 12. In addition to core academic courses, it will offer specialized elective classes in the areas of sustainability, outdoor education, interculturalization, STEM, business and entrepreneurship, leadership, and fine arts. There will be advanced coaching and training opportunities for student athletes in multiple sports academies beginning with hockey and expanding to soccer, golf, and other scholarship-qualifying sports. All aspects of the learning experience at PCS will be informed by and infused with the First Peoples Principles of Learning and Indigenous Ways of Knowing as guided and facilitated by the ʔaq̓am Community of the Ktunaxa Nation.PCS will build this paradigm shifting school on the corner of the Purcell Golf course lands, extending toward the St. Mary’s River. The Purcell Collegiate campus will be spacious and student housing as well as multi-sport playing courts and various outdoor learning spaces. The campus has been designed to offer the BC curriculum in a state-of-the-art learning environment that includes labs and maker spaces as well as a commercial kitchen and dining hall capable of serving up to 300+ students per day in a state of the art boarding facility.
