In this role I managed a staff of four to provide support for the Queensland Regional Committee, sub committees and their activities. These activities include evaluation of policy in relation to professional standards, credentialing for Fellows, delivery of continuing medical education, pre-fellowship courses and events, College exams, co-ordination of accreditation inspections and facilitation of the College training scheme in Queensland. I managed day to day operations, human resources, IT, facilities and finance.

Birsbane

Cognitive Institute provided communication skills training in risk management, and management and leadership to health professionals in Australia, Singapore and New Zealand. Each year, Cognitive would conduct approximately 400 events including half day workshops to three day training programs delivered by highly skilled medical faculty. In February 2007, Cognitive Institute was purchased by Medical Protection Society to improve the risk management programs available to their 260,000 members based in the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia.

Jindalee And Stafford

My role at each of these facilities was similar. I was responsible for occupancy, clinical and personal care, human resources, domestic environment, catering, property, purchasing, marketing, public relations, budgeting, and meeting legislative requirements. Relationship management was critical in this role; the needs of residents, their families, staff, company objectives and government regulations required careful balancing. During this time the introduction of accreditation standards necessitated a new focus on risk management, quality improvement and consumer expectations. This required constant assessment of processes with a view to continuous improvement and change management. I led clinical teams through six successful Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency audits. I also worked with external consultants to help develop a robust workplace health and safety program to support TriCare’s initiative to become a self insured employer.
