Managing and co-ordinating all aspects of HR in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences.

I am responsible for recruitment for senior positions, co-ordinating the recruitment activities at the University of Pretoria, and managing a team of 8 staff who actively recruit for support service staff and teaching staff at UP.I have been seconded to a project management role within Recruitment at UP since Jan 2014. This Recruitment Project aims at holistically improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the recruitment service provided at the University of Pretoria.

This was a secondment opportunity within the University of Pretoria to recruit and provide student support to bursary holders of the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation. The 100 students on the programme (in my time there) were severely disadvantaged students from impoverished backgrounds, many from remote rural areas with limited access to basic amenities and educational facilities at their schools. The students selected as bursary holders were those who showed leadership abilities and potential, strong resilience and tenacity, and those who had overcome adversity in their situations. Support to students involved one-on-one interaction with students on all matters pertaining to student life and wellness, preparing programme reports for presentation to management of the funding organisation on students' progress and development, and organising events pertaining to the programme (such as programme launches, study sessions, recruitment drives, skills development symposiums, year-end social events, etc.)Overall this was a very rewarding experience and a great opportunity to give back to this community of students at UP. I am so much richer as a result of this experience.

I actively recruited for mostly support staff at the University of Cape Town.

I was approached by the Executive Director: HR to actively recruit for a range of positions on a 3-month contractual basis to assist with a project the company had undertaken, and utilised the Graylink e-recruitment system. This was a very dynamic, fast-paced recruitment project.

I held 4 positions at Stellenbosch in this time. I was emplyed on renewable contracts for the duration of my time there. For the first 6 months I was in Research and Development working on the HEMIS Project and Women in Science Project - I did extensive data collection and compilation (Jul-Sept 2003). Then I worked on a temp basis as Research Co-Ordinator for the Human Sciences sector - co-ordinating NRF grant applications from Stellenbosch researchers in the Human Sciences (Oct-Dec 2003). From March 2003 I was employed in HR to manage ad-hoc projects and also worked as a temp in HR, replacing an HR officer who had been seconded to work on the implementation of the Oracle System Project at Stellenbosch University (Mar 2004-Jun 2006).

My role was 2-pronged: Recruitment of Staff, and Managing Metroplitan's bursary programme and starting up the Graduate Recruitment Programme (in 2000) at the Asset Management Division. The bursary and graduate recruitment programmes included the recruitment of students via advertising and careers exhibitions, psychometric testing of students under supervision of the in-house industrial psychologist, co-ordinating all bursary admin, orientation, mentoring, work-shadowing, vacation work and employment of students who had completed their studies. The bursary programme consumed about 25-30% of my time and recruitment of staff across levels, 70-75%.
