East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, United Kingdom
I work across consultancy and research projects within the business. Within the consultancy business, I deliver Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) focused work for clients involving flow metering, combustion activities, methane and CO2 flaring emissions, erosion analysis, and flow assurance in multiphase flows. I also help support the development and deployment of our virtual metering technologies and uncertainty software tools.

My role was to provide CFD simulations and engineering analysis, solutions and advice for project stakeholders. Key achievements:• Built and delivered CFD simulations of prototype burner designs, managed the outsourcing of laboratory-scale experiments, supervised a test program in Canada, communicated CFD analysis to the lead technical authorities and senior management on a high profile burner product development project.• Lead a CFD model validation work package for oxyfuel combustion within a European project (RELCOM). Delivered presentations at international conferences and provided a final report to the project board.• Developed a boiler slagging model approach in ANSYS Fluent through a User Defined Function (UDF) with user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) for the boiler business unit in Korea. • Secured funding, conducted interviews and became industrial supervisor for a student at the University of Sheffield focused on CFD modelling of pulverised fuel ignition.• Co-ordinated in-furnace measurement campaigns of in an in-house 40 MW pulverised fuel test facility and investigated improvements to existing measurement techniques. The improvements included a heat flux measurement investigation to improve the quality of data used for CFD model validation and the testing of novel flame imaging equipment for improved flame characterisation in collaboration with the University of Kent.• Instigated improvements to the company’s current CFD best practice in pollutant emission prediction and the modelling of biomass combustion through effectively communicating the outcome of project work.

Part-time role undertaken during the final year of my PhD. Assisted in providing CFD solutions to technical problems and investigated the use of alternative CFD software for agitation in storage tanks. Key achievements:• Provided CFD analysis of different injection valve design for the mixing of two fluids in a process plant within P&G that was causing frequent plant cleaning. The CFD analysis was presented and allowed the process team to select a replacement injection valve. • Developed a CFD approach for the simulation of agitated storage tanks using AcuSolve CFD software and compared against ANSYS Fluent predictions.
