About Sanjay Basavaraju
Design, in its true nature, is a profession for generalists. I thrive when my work impacts the breadth of the organization. I prefer being a generalist and working with specialists. With the right set of values, one can traverse several subjects by learning to be humble and have a default ‘yes’ mindset.I mentor designers in my organization and outside of it too. I have found the right recipe for mentoring — helping specialists reinvent techniques, encouraging them to have a different perspective, and being humble to learn from the whole process. I call myself the reluctant specialist.I will be hitting two decades in design by the end of 2023. I am starting to become a specialist. I keep talking to designers (to be one with the craft) and founders (to be one with the world’s needs) to keep my mind a revolving door.
