My lab is focused on understanding the role of inflammation, particularly NF-κB inducing kinase (NIK), in diabetic complications. our research has identified NIK as a common denominator linking diverse sequelae of diabetes, and we are currently studying downstream protein binding partners that may provide new therapeutic targets. Additionally, we have found that the anti-aging protein Klotho has a protective role in diabetic nephropathy and are pursuing this study to develop strategies for increasing renal Klotho levels in diabetic subjects. Finally, we identified novel kinases, including ATM, important in TNF-induced NF-κB signaling pathway and are studying their role in regulating NF-κB activation.
