Dr. Sanjeev Bhatia is a Board Certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and arthroscopic treatment of hip, knee and shoulder injuries. He is presently the Director of the Hip & Knee Joint Preservation Center of the Northwestern Medicine West Region as well as a co-founder of Joint Preservation Innovations. Dr. Bhatia brings with him unique experience in repairing and reconstructing hip labral tears, which involves the ring of cartilage that goes around the hip socket. He has personally cared for and treated thousands of individuals including professional athletes and US Olympians in addition to high school, college and recreational athletes.Originally from Chicago, Dr. Bhatia attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Northwestern University Medical School. From there, he completed his orthopaedic residency at Rush University Medical Center. After residency, Dr. Bhatia went on to complete a sports medicine and hip arthroscopy fellowship at the renowned Steadman-Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado. As a fellow, Dr. Bhatia gained expertise in the most innovative techniques in hip arthroscopy from one of the pioneers of the procedure, Dr. Marc Philippon. He also trained extensively in complex multiligament knee ligament surgery, shoulder instability and rotator cuff repair while participating in the care of athletes from the NHL, NFL, PGA, USTA, and international Olympic teams, among others. Dr. Bhatia's clinical and research interests involve injuries of the hip, knee and shoulder. He has authored over 65 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on topics such as shoulder instability, rotator cuff repair, complex meniscus repair and ACL reconstruction. More recently, he helped pioneer and publish the "Kite Technique," a novel method for arthroscopic hip labral reconstruction that is now being taught to many surgeons around the country.An innovator by heart, Dr. Bhatia is also the co-founder and CEO of Joint Preservation Innovations, an emerging medical device company aimed at reducing the surgical footprint for many orthopaedic, spinal and robotic procedures.
