Assistant Professor
Teaching undergraduates and post-graduates. Conducting research on chemical signals, olfaction and related aspects. The animals that we use for our current research includes, mice, rats, and cats, and trying to extend to other companion and livestock animals. Supervising Ph.D., students and mentoring undergraduates. Collaborating with national and international partners to cater advancements in the field of chemical signalling in animals.
Scientist D And Head
I worked as Scientist-D and Head in the Center for Laboratory Animal Technology and Research, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, India. It was a CPCSEA approved animal facility to carry out research on laboratory animals (mice, rats, etc.). Besides, sophisticated laboratory facilities were also available to carry out research work (X-ray unit, surgery facility, Auto-analyzer, microtome, and other related facilities). We mainly worked on sponsored projects. The animal facility was extended to the needy, who require animal facility for their projects/thesis/dissertation. We conducted periodical training programs in regard to small animal handling and research.
Postdoctoral Researcher
I worked as a Post Doctoral Fellow under the sponsored scheme from UGC through Dr. D. S. Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowship. My project is to identify urinary volatile and protein biomarkers in the body exudates of women with reproductive disorders, such as PCOS. The results of this project would help develop sensor devices that could be utilized as point of care diagnostics in clinical settings for the diagnosis of reproductive disorders. Moreover, this model would be helpful to replicate the methods and implement it for other diseases/disorders/cancers that lack potential diagnostics.
Assistant Professor
I worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at Kalasalingam Academy of Education and Research, Krishnankoil, TN, India. My responsibilities are teaching and research, and other administrative work. My research area and interest is to identify candidate biomarkers for the diagnosis of infections/diseases in animal and human beings. The ultimate long-term goal is to develop point-of-care, cheap and affordable sensor devices as diagnostics.
Post Doctoral Research Associate
Literature review, research planning , performing research on volatile metabolomics of pigs and dogs, assisting Graduate students in method optimization, volatile analyses, interpretation of results, preparation and revision of manuscripts, and writing grant proposals.Skills and expertise include collection of biological secretions of animals and analysis of behavior data.Projects completed recently include urinary volatile metabolomics analysis in sick pigs, and stressed pigs and dogs.
Post Doctoral Researcher
Performed research on semiochemicals identification and study of behavioral expression of Italian dairy cow to develop estrus detection tools. Responsibilities include, planning, field work, sample collection, analysis of samples in laboratory, interpretation of results and manuscript preparation. Techniques used includes, behavioral measurements, sample collection methods optimization, serum hormone assay, biochemical estimation in excretory sources, volatile extraction and GC-MS analysis of body exudates, proteomic analysis of urine etc. We found specific volatile molecules in each source we analyzed. We propose the changes are based on the hormonal milieu of the cows. We also found a short duration and interval of estrus in multiparous cows than primiparous cows. The data is compiled and being written as a manuscript. This manuscript will be the foremost study on pheromones, which contains the volatile compounds data from different sources from five different phases of two consecutive post-partum estrous cycle.
Ph.D., Environmental Biotechnology
Primary research is on goat pheromones and behavior. This work involves behavioral observations in male and female goat, collection of scent sources such as urine, faeces, and scent gland from male and female goats. Techniques used includes, protein estimation, lipid estimation, fatty acid analysis, volatile extraction and GC-MS analysis, proteomic analysis using SDS-PAGE and MALDI-TOF, and histological techniques.
M.Sc., Eco-Biotechnology
Performed project on modulating role of pheromoneal cues in endocrine affected male rat by pesticides.
B,Sc., Microbiology
