My thesis topic is related to direction estimation of a sound source using hydrophones in an underwater multirobot system. I designed and built a data acquisition system for collecting underwater acoustic data. This included PCB and electronics design and component selection to interface hydrophones with a Raspberry Pi. In addition I needed to select and build a suitable enclosure and a floating platform to use in a wet environment. I have not studied much electronics and it was nice to learn more about that, even though it was also demanding. I learned to find the important details in data sheets and ways to reduce interference in order to get quality data out of the sensors. It was also interesting to see the whole process from planning the electronics and building the system to programming and testing with it and analyzing the results, as I have previously mostly worked with only software.

I operated machines at an assembly line which manufactured electronic components. I also did visual quality control. The working area was an ISO 7 clean room and I worked night shift. Murata manufactures sensors for the measurement of acceleration, angular rate and inclination, which are used in vehicles (e.g. ESC) and health technology (e.g. pacemakers). Learned: - Visual quality control using microscope- Controlling and troubleshooting machines- Precision on dealing with micrometer-sized parts- Independent work- Clean room principles
