Sam was formally The Head of Data management for the China Kadoorie Biobank at the Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU), University of Oxford where he led a team consisting of Senior Data Scientists and Data Analysts. Sam had overall responsibility for developing, implementing and maintaining CKB data management strategy, including processes and associated technology, for the purpose of processing, uploading and curating health data, and to ensure these processes remained fit for purpose for a range of complex data types over the longer term.Sam spent the majority of his career gaining a wealth of experiencing across all aspects of data and database management within the financial services sector. During his time in the financial services sector, Sam was the Mainframe Database Manager during one of the largest and most complex Banking IT integrations ever undertaken working across multiple sites in the UK. His specific focus was on delivering an integrated online customer information service and internet banking platform for over 30 million customers.Sam took the opportunity to further develop his career and his desire to work in an academic environment by graduating from the Open University with a BSc (Hons) in Computing and Statistics and to pursue his interest in multi-dimensional data and data from new and heterogeneous sources. Sam joined the University of Oxford in early 2013. Sam was based at the University of Oxford's Big Data Institute (BDI) which is part of the Li Ka Shing Centre for Health Information and Discovery.Sam is currently enjoying an indefinite sabbatical!
