Product development and production for the FusionScope.

Main duties were to support research at UCSD and at Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics. These duties included:Ultra High Vacuum Maintenance/Implementation (Cryo-Pumps replacement, troubleshooting leaks, etc.).Maintained and repaired Water-based chillers and water lines.Calculated NEPOMUC beamline pressure profile using an approximate model in LTSpice.Performed stress and strain Simulations using SolidWorks simulation.Designed hardware in SolidWorks (Vacuum components, DAC enclosure, Lifting Equipment, etc.).Wrote State machine in LabVIEW for control of positron beam diagnostic.Performed Monte Carlo simulation of positron-gas interaction annihilation diagnostics in MATLAB.Programmed equipment in LabVIEW including DC Supply, Signal Generators, Motor Controllers and Oscilloscope using RS485, LAN, and USB.Prototyped positron beam diagnostic control using an Arduino for proof of principle.Built solenoids for positron beamline for pair plasma project (NEPOMUC electron/positron plasma).Fabricated custom test tubes and electronics boxes as necessary to improve experiment user experience.Troubleshot electronics and experiments, including LHe level sensor controller and 15kW DC Supply.

Identified, documented, and repaired pneumatic and electronic failure modes of ventilators designed and manufactured by Philips Healthcare.Performed CAPA's (Corrective and Preventative Action) and failure trend tracking.

As a student and Non-Neutral Plasma research team member I amassed the following experience:Performed research on the behavior of pure electron plasma waves (Trivelpiece-Gould, Diocotron) under dissipation in a Penning-Malmberg trapTracked non-axisymmetric Trivelpiece-Gould wave to within 1MHz of unobserved negative energy frequency regimeMeasured diocotron wave damping over four orders of magnetic field magnitudeImplemented precision test equipment for research (signal generator, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, low-noise amplifiers, precision DMM, voltmeters)Troubleshot and repaired various electronics (timed pulsors, DC power supplies, precision DMM, low-noise amplifiers)Utilized and troubleshot various plasma diagnostic and manipulation methods (parallel temperature, radial profile, azimuthal profile, wave amplitude, wave position, wave drive, negative feedback damping, magnetic field alignment)Gained familiarity with plasma energy analysis for perpendicular and parallel energies.Programmed signal generator in Fortran for use as a plasma wave drive.Worked both alone and under highly limited supervision of project scientists and principle investigators.Produced undergraduate honors thesis, “Characteristics of Positive and Negative Energy Plasma Waves”Presented experimental results at American Physical Society’s 60th Annual Division of Plasma Physics Conference in Portland, OR.Presented experimental results at UCSD’s 32nd Annual Research Seminar in La Jolla, CA.Presented experimental results to Principal Scientists on a weekly basis.
