Instructor for ENME 408 – Selected Topics in Engineering Design: Global EngineeringGlobal Engineering establishes an interdisciplinary study of engineering technology, entrepreneurship skills and the influence of the global society/culture on problem solving. More than ever before, engineering is a global endeavor. Next generation engineers must have skills to work in globally dispersed heterogeneous teams operating in different physical locations possibly in different time zones and with cultural perspectives. Most industry leaders, engineering educators, and students seem to agree on the importance of demonstrating global competence. However, the specific attributes of global engineering competence have been vaguely and variably defined, making it difficult to incorporate them into an academic program.

Graduate Research Assistant at the MicroMaterials Characterization Laboratory (MMCL)The research team at the MMCL laboratory focuses on interdisciplinary research on the micromechanics of materials and structures in order to develop new materials and improve existing ones. The program is built upon understanding and explaining deformation mechanisms in emerging material systems. This involves the application of mechanics to the most appropriate or across-length scales and the use of analytical and numerical methods to compute the macroscopic response. This science-based approach enables design-led optimization of new materials shortening routine experimentation. Optimum microstructures can be forecasted rather than found by trial and error.As a research assistant, I enhanced and developed research skills such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Optical Microscopy (OM), Microtensile Mechanical Testing, Fractography, Polishing, Technical Writing, and Data Analysis.

Within the course "Projeto FEUP": - Coordinated first year engineering students during some practical activities in the first week of intensive work; - Guided a class of 19 first year students of mechanical engineering, divided in 4 teams of 4/5 students, in the development of small projects about “Mechanical Engineering in the food industry”.
