Formerly a member of the Indian Administrative Service (1976, Gujarat Cadre) Mr Mohapatra has served in senior positions in the Government and Public Sector (Secretary, Industries, Government of Gujarat, CEO, Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board, MD, Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd, and Chairman ,Paradip Port) before he quit Government to build a new port at Dhamra, Odisha as CEO of Dhamra Port Company Limited, then a joint venture of Tata Steel and L&T. The Port became operational in 2011 and was taken over by the Adani Group in 2014. Mr Mohapatra continued as a Director of DPCL as well as Director, Odisha for the Adani Group till July 2015 and thereafter took up a new assignment in the same group as the first Director and CEO of Adani Vizhinjam Port Limited (AVPPL), a company formed to build a new deep sea port at Vizhinjam, Kerala under a Concession from Government of Kerala. The Company has since commenced construction and the port, which is going to be India's first deep sea port near the international trade route for transhipment of containers at present going to Colombo and Singapore is likely to be ready by December 2019.
