Igor is a classically-trained and award-winning composer with expertise in composing music for concert performances, TV, documentaries, theater, and innovative music technology applications. Described as “otherworldly and mysteriously familiar” (Chicago Classical Review), and as “exciting and clear... with a striking boldness" (Luigi Nono Competition Prize), Igor Santos's music centers on the relationship between found sounds and footage with acoustic instruments. He frequently emphasizes these elements through variegated repetition, microtonality, and the integration of electronics.Igor is a graduate of the University of Chicago, the Eastman School of Music, and the University of South Florida, and has been awarded the Rome Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, among several other grants and prizes. He has been performed internationally by leading musicians in the field, such as Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Dal Niente, Talea Ensemble, Yarn Wire, Alarm Will Sound, the American Composers Orchestra, and The Florida Orchestra.Igor is a native of Curitiba, Brazil.
