Main Project Features : The main purpose of the project was extending 4.5 kilometers existing 12m road to 20m road with demarcation structures, footpaths for pedestrians, 1200mm and 900mm Hume pipes for storm and waste water management and DBM and asphalt concrete for main traffic. Demarcation structures mainly stone masonry and brick masonry walls on left and right side with 2m Footpath paved with interlocking blocks with rubber tactile for disabled persons. 1200mm and 900mm Hume pipe were provided for storm and waste water management of residential and commercial buildings. Main road section had 0.5m tick drain on each side. 20cm sub-base, 20cm base, 50mm DBM and 60 mm Asphalt concrete with proper road markings and traffic signs were provided for main traffic section.Activities Performed : Preparation of work schedules, weekly work progress reports, bills and variation orders.Dealing with client and local authorities regularly for site disputes. Guiding sub engineer and supervisors for work as per work schedules. Monitoring work progress, quantities and materials as per site progress.

The objective of the project was to provide basic infrastructure such as road, electricity, telephone, drainage, potable water supply, open spaces, parks and making it suitable for an ideal residential and commercial area. For the ongoing construction works, site supervision, laying out, quality control, providing, level of different structures and planning work schedules and preparation of bills are a part of major works. As per current site condition various rigid pavement works, preparation of flexible pavement works, stone masonry retaining walls, shear walls, preparation of open spaces, electricity distribution network are completed. Parks and open spaces, asphalt concrete works and electricity distribution works are on final stage and the project will be completed within next few months.

During this project period various survey were performed. These surveys include finding the co-ordinates of structures, for the actual ground and after excavation to find out excavation and fill volumes. Actual alignment of the pipeline/penstock was also fixed along with the various anchor block position, RL of these structures were fixed with auto level and Layout of the drawing in the actual field was also a part of job. During construction, quality control was of first priority. Various tests were performed for to get the designed strength, cube test, sieve analysis and slump test were done on every concreting day; daily records were kept for various materials such as reinforcements, cement, aggregate, sands, and stones and so on, daily progress reports and monthly progress reports were kept to complete various tasks in designed time and were submitted too. Preparation of bill of quantity was also done; Labors, drivers and heavy equipment operators were assigned various works as per site condition such as formworks, material collection, excavation and material transport.

During this project, our duties and responsibilities were to co-ordinate with local government bodies (VDCs and Municipalities Secretariat) and organize awareness program for the reconstruction process. Masons and labors were trained for better construction methods and techniques and were provided with basic construction tools. Various awareness campaigns were conducted on the understanding of the people’s basic concept on reconstruction process and earthquake resistant building. Many constructed building were inspected for minimum standard set by Nepal Reconstruction Authority (NRA) and under construction buildings were inspected and supervised for the minimum standard. All reports were prepared for the various activities and were submitted to the team leaders.

During this project more than 400 households were visually checked for the damage caused by earthquake in Nepal. House owners were suggested to apply corrective measures for the damage and stay out in open area during earthquake aftershocks. Further house owners were informed about the earthquake and aftershocks and return period of earthquake in Nepal.
