I believe I have much to offer to any school. I have extensive experience teaching in high school math and science programs, including international positions in Mexico, India, Qatar, Philippines and Egypt as well as 10 years in Canada. I have taught all levels of IB Math courses, all HS level Math courses from Basic, Integrated to Honors. I have also taught all HS science courses (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). Prior to my career as an educator, I worked as a food chemist (Kellogg’s and Canada Packers) and as a biochemist (Canadian Red Cross Society) and as such, in my math discussions with students, I incorporate lessons I have learned in the “real world”.I am very committed to developing successful students. I focus my students’ classroom experiences on the what of mathematics (the content and the skills of math) and also on how they acquire this understanding (the processes of the learning). I also like to incorporate a BIGGER picture of mathematics – the why of math (math’s inter-connectedness and developmental nature). I also focus on developing the character of my students. Responsibility, persistence, taking risks, being creative and having positive attitudes are emphasized in class, as is the ability to think and work inter-dependently, but yet also independently. I am passionate about learning and thus I embrace a vision of developing life-long learners.Realizing that a great school experience cannot only be rooted solely in academics, I have a proven track record in providing extracurricular activities for students, both in sports and in academic activities. I coached in basketball and soccer programs, Track and Field and badminton. I have also run Math Clubs (preparing for various math contests and running a peer math tutoring program) as well as being a staff advisor to Student Councils. To extend my involvement into the community, I have also been involved in community theatre in the past.I believe that I would be a good fit in any and all professional communities. I have a demonstrated love for learning myself (I’m currently working through a Master’s degree in Mathematics). My teaching style reflects my philosophy that students should take ownership of their learning, thus empowering them to be responsible, independent and take leadership. Since I structure many of my lessons as problem solving exercises, students are encouraged to be inquisitive and to demonstrate critical and analytical thinking. As such, students gain an awareness of their learning – their strengths, their confidences and their motivations.
