Provide advice to the Human Resources Department regarding varying employment matters. This includes employee relations issues, discrimination claims, wage and hour claims, reviewing severance agreements and managing any litigation or Equal Employment Opportunity Commission claims in conjunction with outside counsel. I counsel the Human Resources Director on day-to-day employment issues, including policies and procedures, hiring, termination, workplace investigations, leaves, overtime compensation, disability, and litigation avoidance practices. Assign, supervise and coordinate the activities of outside counsel representing the company in various jurisdictions. In this capacity I manage active commercial lawsuits, collaborate in litigation strategy, review and approve pleadings, discovery responses, budgets and legal invoices. Review and respond to subpoenas and other requests for documents. Coordinate with trademark counsel responsible for the organization’s portfolio of registered trademarks. Draft, revise and negotiate various agreements including services agreements, agency agreements, binding authority agreements, non-disclosure agreements, novation agreements and amendments as necessitated by the business unit.Manage the handling and resolution of regulatory consumer complaints. Participate in the resolution of regulatory market conduct exams and inquiries. Supervised the producer licensing team. Provided legal advice on licensing issues including managing general agent licenses, third party administrator licenses, business entity and individual producer licenses. Review regulatory applications for the expansion of the insurance operations. Directly communicate with Department of Insurance Regulators in response to a variety of issues.

Assisted with large-scale document production projects pertaining to general litigation, securities, bankruptcy, mass torts, antitrust, trademark and white-collar crime actions. This included the review and analysis of complex documents in response to regulatory investigations and other requests for production. I supervised and trained over 50 contract attorneys, prepared privilege logs, assisted with deposition preparation and performed quality control of work performed by other attorneys. Performed due diligence in the mergers and acquisitions group with an emphasis on insurance matters.
