UpStream Strategy Partners is committed to building stronger communities through prevention and mind wellness education. My role as Director of Programming is multifaceted, with my primary focus being development of programming for the workplace-based mental health training program Mind Wellness University, and the UpStream Community Prevention program. In this capacity, I recruit and mentor mental health topic experts to share their knowledge with the Mind Wellness University Corporate Membership through in-person and virtual trainings in their area of expertise, recruit and implement new corporate members, and conduct trainings within my own areas of expertise related to trauma recovery and mental health.

As a Trauma-Informed Mental Health Advocate, I facilitate workshops and coach individuals in how painful past experiences show up in their present-day interactions and relationships, providing practical tools to begin using right now to improve relationships at all layers of a life, from family, life partners, parenting, and the workplace. Understanding how trauma impacts the brain helps to minimize conflict by providing knowledge to identify when trauma is interfering with interactions, and how to respond with Boundaries, Accountability, and Grace when it occurs. I work with businesses to create more compassionate and nurturing work environments, which improves productivity, turnover, and employee morale. I also work with non-profit organizations serving at-risk families, teaching parent empowerment courses using the Redefining Love Framework. Trauma-informed workshops are customized to each organization, so no two are the same.

I coach trauma, abuse, and chronic stress survivors to feel empowered to prioritize their own mental health in the midst of conflict within their close relationships with family, partners, parents, adult children, and colleagues. The Redefining Love framework honors the struggle of deep caring by offering a new definition of love that allows my clients to set boundaries and hold themselves and others accountable with love and grace.

In the fall of 2020, I partnered with my friend and colleague Yoshie Barnett to create Content Empowered, a content creation and website design firm focused on female entrepreneurs. Niching down to focus on female empowerment allows me to focus on my passion for helping women build their online business. As a former social worker and trauma survivor, I am particularly interested in working with women who are bouncing back from trauma, including divorce, domestic violence, sexual assault, and childhood trauma, as well as with women dedicating to helping trauma survivors, such as life coaches, therapists, and those in the health and wellness industry.

I currently maintain three blogs, including Redefining Love, which seeks to teach people to set boundaries and hold each other accountable with grace and love; The Sara Beth Times, which is a continuation of my newspaper column (see below); and most recently, I began blogging about issues related to females in business on my professional website Content Empowered.

I am a freelance blogger and content creator in Billings, Montana. I have written for numerous online and print publications, most notably publishing a syndicated newspaper column for eight and a half years. In recent years, I have also worked as a content creator for clients primarily in the health, wellness, and human service area. I am the publisher of two blogs, The Sara Beth Times and Redefining Love, which seeks to teach people how to set boundaries and hold others accountable with love.

For RSVP, I recruited and coordinated placements of senior members of the community interested in volunteering. I enrolled worksites, and mediated relationships between volunteer worksites and volunteers to ensure positive experiences for both. In addition, I maintained grant requirements and assisted in collecting and reporting data to maintain the funding for the program.

The Sara Beth Times began in 1996 as a newsletter mailed to far away friends and family. In 2008, I began writing a weekly column in two rural newspapers, The Lewistown News-Argus and the Sidney (Mont.) Herald. The column followed my thoughts, feelings, growth, and failings as I navigated the eight and a half years living in a tiny house on Main Street USA.

This position required incredible focus and attention to detail, as well as a working knowledge of the unique accounting system at Sports Inc. I left this position to take care of my second child, who was having health problems.

I absolutely loved my job at Delta. I was responsible for responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for large market customers between 1,000 to 1Million+ enrollees. The RFP response process included writing and formatting marketing bids in a professional-grade proposal book sometimes hundreds of pages long. In addition to sales bids, I also edited and formatted enrollee packets and Explanation of Benefits; and served on a cross-departmental team to clarify highly technical dental, insurance, and legal terminology included in benefit booklets and enrollee information packets. I left this job in order to stay home with my infant son.

I edited and formatted research articles for publication in the journal; worked with authors to bring their work to publication; assisted the Editor in selection of work to be published; and worked with the publisher to ensure a smooth publication process and a professional, polished product.

During my tenure at BBBS my primary job was to match and maintain a caseload of 50-70 at-risk youth in positive mentoring relationships with adult volunteers, which required extensive interviews of children, families, and volunteers for participation in the program. I also created and maintained multiple school-based mentoring programs with a caseload of 15-20 at-risk youth in Lansing and Missoula, Montana. In addition, I taught volunteer mentoring classes, parenting classes, and ‘good touch, bad touch’ classes to at-risk youth, and assisted involved families with various social service needs. After being promoted to Senior Case Manager in 2001, I oversaw a staff of six social work professionals; interviewed potential new employees; organized and participated in various community outreach, public relations, and fundraising projects; wrote grants, and performed various other administrative duties.
