About Sara Bode
I am a primary care pediatrician and the medical director of School Health Services at Nationwide Children's Hospital and the medical consultant for Columbus City Schools and Ohio Department of Health. Additionally, I am the chair for the American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP) Council on School Health and Director for the AAP’s Community Pediatrics Training Initiative (CPTI). My clinical work and research center around the intersection of health and education and providing care for the underserved. I am passionate about advocacy training for faculty and pediatric residents around the country to effect systemic change.I am thrilled to do work in schools that is transforming the ways we give kids access and care - particularly those who can’t come to the hospital. Our goal is to reach kids where they are, for example in schools, apartment complexes, homeless shelters and early childcare centers. We can be innovative and try new things that lower barriers. We accomplish that by building community partnerships with the Nationwide Children’s School-Based Health program and working with school nurses at Columbus City Schools getting kids linked to services.I have three teenagers (15,16, and 18) who keep me very busy at home; I’m a part time taxi driver! I play tennis, and I love to be outside hiking in national parks. My family also enjoys sports, and we spend a lot of time watching our kids’ games.
