About Sara Boscolo Bibi, Ph.D.

Welcome to my profile!I'm Sara, a chemist who loves catalysis and renewable energy. Through my lab experience (6+ years) I've had the opportunity to study different nanomaterials for different applications, broadening my skills from synthesis to analysis, especially different spectroscopic techniques (SFG, XPS, XAS, IR and Raman, UV-VIS, NMR) and electrochemical protocols. During these years I've had to plan and organize different projects, such as synthesis and characterization of titania-based materials, hematite nanorods, and surface studies of gold. As a proactive and curious person, I’m always enthusiastic to learn new skills and like understanding how things work. I'm looking for new scientific opportunities, and bring a detail-oriented and problem-solving mind. Skills: electrochemistry, catalysis, nanomaterials, surface science, spectroscopy, materials sciene, chemical synthesis, renewable energy, R&D, project manager, Python.

  • Stockholms Universitet
    Researcher In Chemical Physics
    Stockholms Universitet Aug 2018 - Jan 2024
    Stockholm, Stockholm County, Sweden
PhD research topic: spectroelectrochemical and catalytic studies of gold materials.Experiments were conducted at the Physics department of Stockholm University and at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY, Hamburg, Germany).- Designing a thin-film electrochemical cell for operando spectroscopy experiments.- Investigating how electrochemical protocols affect the surface properties of gold films after oxide-derived gold (OD-Au) is formed.- CO oxidation studies using gold nanoparticles supported on TiO2 and Fe2O3 as catalysts.- Defining safety protocols for handling CO in the lab.- Lab management: buying chemicals and equipment, overseeing chemical inventory.Techniques:- Operando optical sum frequency generation spectroscopy (laser spectroscopy)- High-pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy- X-ray absorption spectroscopy (HERFD-XANES)- Mass spectrometrySupervisor: Prof. Tony HanssonCo-supervisor: Dr. Sergey Koroidov
  • Stockholm University
    Teaching Assistant
    Stockholm University Sep 2019 - Jan 2023
    Stockholm, Stockholm County, Sweden
I supervise the lab activities of two courses. My role is to prepare the equipment before the courses start, assess students' learning, and facilitate discussions. I also helped to design one of the two lab activities and to write a Python script used by the student during the course.
  • Stockholm University
    Phd Student Representative
    Stockholm University Jan 2020 - Dec 2022
Member of two committees for Naturvetenskapliga fakultetsrådet (NFR): Studentrepresentant (representative for math/physics) and Samverkansberedningen.
  • Luleå University Of Technology
    Researcher
Luleå University Of Technology Jan 2018 - Jun 2018
    Luleå, Norrbotten, Sweden
Research work for my Master's thesis (6 months Erasmus+ traineeship) consisting of synthesis and characterization of hematite (Fe2O3) nanorods and cuprous oxide (Cu2O) on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) surfaces to investigate their photocatalytic properties with respect to energy conversion and storage. The main achievement is the simultaneous photoelectrochemical oxidation of benzylamine at the cathode and hydrogen production at the anode.Description:- Hematite nanorods grown on dense-layer-coated FTO substrates: spin coating and hydrothermal synthesis were used (photoelectrodes).- Electrodeposition of cuprous oxide on hematite nanorods surface (heterojunction, solar cell).Characterization methods:X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis spectroscopy, electrochemical characterization, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.Supervisors: Prof. Alberto Vomiero and Prof. Francesco GonellaAssistant supervisor: Dr. Raffaello MazzaroThis work is published in Nano Energy (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.nanoen.2019.04.013)
  • Università Ca' Foscari Venezia
    Researcher
Università Ca' Foscari Venezia Apr 2015 - Sep 2015
    Venice, Veneto, Italy
Research for my Bachelor's thesis: Synthesis and characterization of Au/TiO2 and Au−CuO/TiO2 mesoporouscomposites for the eco-sustainable purification of hydrogen (photocatalytic oxidation of CO to CO2 in H2-rich streams) as an energy carrier for fuel cell technology.Description: - Acid and basic hydrolysis to prepare the different samples of ordered mesoporous materials based on titania.- Characterization techniques: morphological and compositional (X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD)), structural (N2 physisorbtion, Raman spectroscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy) and optical (UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy) techniques.- Photocatalytic activity investigated for Carbon Monoxide Preferential Oxidation (CO-PROX) with a solar lamp and gas chromatography.Supervisor: Prof. Elisa MorettiCo-supervisor: Dr. Loretta Storaro
