Project title: Translating evidence and building capacity to support Waterpipe control in the Eastern Mediterranean: Developing and testing waterpipe-specific Health Warning Label.funded by National Institutes of Health● Conducted several interviews with various stakeholders including Policymakers such as Ministers and Members of the Parliament, NGOs and journalists, all of whom had a key role in the Tobacco control Law 174.● Prepared interview guide and conducted interviews with a group of Stakeholders in Lebanon related to Tobacco Control. Interviews were about passing a decree following Law 174 on implementing Pictorial Health Warning labels (PHWLs) in Lebanon.● Analyzed stakeholder interviews thematically in preparation for the decree formulation and report writing.● Led over nine focus group discussions with over 80 young adults coming from all over Lebanon to discuss their impression about the effectiveness of waterpipe related health warning labels. The discussions were 2 hours long and followed a guide that was previously prepared.● Analyzed both quantitative and qualitative data extracted from the focus group discussions. Results related to waterpipe health warning labels were used in peer reviewed papers and presented in several local and international conferences.● Authored and co- authored numerous papers in public health, related to alcohol and tobacco.● Presented an oral presentation and poster presentation at Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco 26th Annual meeting. New Orleans (March 2020).● Contributed to abundant presentations in local and international conferences. Prepared abstracts, presentations, slideshows.● Aimed to use findings from study in developing policy in Lebanon for waterpipe specific health warning labels on waterpipe packaging and apparatus consecutive with Law 174, following WHO’s FCTC international guidelines.

Water samples were collected from predetermined locations varied water from the source into the distribution network and on to the water from the household tap. Water samples were collected twice over the wet season and twice over the dry season. Onsite measurements were taken.● Conducted complete water laboratory analysis covering physical, chemical and microbiological testing in the research laboratories, using numerous instruments and machines such as Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and spectrophotometers.● Completed Data analysis to achieve an overall annual result of the unique water sample. This allowed us to compare samples and to establish the specific location of contamination.● Conducted field surveys related to water use and misuse, and potable water purchasing habits.● Contributed to and co- authored many papers, and reports related to water quality in Lebanon.● Trained employees from the Bekaa Water Establishment for physical, chemical and biological water quality analysis, and water sample collection.
