As an associate in the labor and employment group, I counsel clients in a variety of employment and labor matters, including: • assisting employers navigate reductions-in-force, paid and unpaid leave obligations, employee classification issues, return-to-work and vaccination practices, and implementation of drug testing and background checks; • drafting and negotiating executive employment agreements, consulting agreements, noncompete and confidentiality agreements, and severance and general release agreements, noncompete and confidentiality agreements; • defending Title VII, FMLA, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, Section 1981, IHRA, IWPCA, and IWA claims in state and federal court, as well as those before the EEOC and state workforce agencies; • advising corporate buyers and sellers on labor and employment implications of corporate transactions; and • conducting due diligence during corporate transactions to provide risk assessments of wage-and-hour exposure, as well as employment policy and procedure audits both pre- and post-merger.

As an associate at Michael Best & Friedrich, I counseled clients across a wide range of employment issues, including contentious litigation and trials. My experience included: • working directly with partners on single plaintiff cases from inception, including interviewing witnesses, handling day-to-day communication with clients, developing case strategy, and assisting in taking key depositions; • drafting pre-trial and trial-related materials, including motions to dismiss, motions to compel, summary judgment motions, motions in limine, proposed jury instructions, direct and cross-examination outlines, and opening and closing arguments; • advising on day-to-day workplace issues such as employee discipline and termination, disability accommodation, and wage payment obligations; and • preparing and presenting workplace training to management and other employees.

During my internship with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Northern District of California I conducted legal research regarding federal bankruptcy law, prepared issue summaries and making recommendations regarding motions and petitions before the court and observed bankruptcy proceedings, such as the meeting of creditors and other hearings.
