I graduated as a physiotherapist with a specialisation in musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Next year I will complete my double PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences (Hasselt University) and Medical Sciences (University of Antwerp). My PhD is on the topic of Cost-effectiveness of an Application for Tinnitus Treatment: a randomized controlled clinical trial (The CATT trial). My expertise is in health-related quality-of-life research and telerehabilitation for tinnitus patients. I have a particular interest in patients with somatic tinnitus, meaning their tinnitus is directly related to the neck and jaw complaints that they experience. This has been a journey of exploring how our brain and muscles work together.I have the opportunity to work in a great multidisciplinary and inter-university team, and I am so grateful to be able to work with and learn from so many other disciplines. Throughout my double PhD, I have developed new and strengthened existing skills, academic as well as transferable. I published and presented multiple scientific papers and pieces for a wider audience as well. I combine multiple roles, foremost I am a physiotherapist in a clinical and study setting, a researcher and also a teacher. I teach classes in biomechanics, anatomy and manual therapy at Hasselt University. Luckily, I shine in planning and project management and I like additional challenges. Especially if this means I can help even more people.One of those additional challenges is my postgraduate in Entrepreneurship for Researcher that I am completing simultaneously with my PhD. While Medicinal sciences are fascinating, I wanted to broaden my view, go out of my comfort zone a bit more and explore the world of financial management, innovation and entrepreneurship. Secondly, I am the coordinator of data analytics and the lead graphical design for TRI academy, the science dissemination wing of the Tinnitus Research Initiative.
