Fascinating program by incredible agents and organizers. Thank you for the nomination.

May 2023 - Present

Vice President, Global Communications

Current

People always ask me about my non-linear career path before and while at Sophos. My response: It. Is. By. Design. ;) Life is too short to climb the corporate ladder one careful rung at a time. It's much more interesting (or necessary due to life's curveballs) to occasionally zig or to zag. My #1 strength and passion as a PR pro is developing media strategy, which encompasses numerous areas, from critical comms and reputation management to image building and helping a business pivot or get on the map. My other passions are neuro-psychology, as a result of my experience as a #chiari and #syringomyelia mom (fellow parents DM me), cooking and food photography (more on my cookbook later), and my amazing family. Below is a short, formal bio:Sara Eberle is vice president of global public relations at Sophos. She has more than 30 years of PR and journalism experience, with 20 of these years working specifically in cybersecurity and technology PR. Sara’s PR agency in Los Angeles, Calif., was responsible for handling breaking news around the ILOVEYOU virus, which infected more than 10 million personal computers after it was released in May 2000, and cracking open coverage of cybersecurity in mainstream U.S. national news outlets, including NBC and USA Today. Over the years, she has worked with countless threat experts and executives from around the world to bring their stories battling cybercrime to life. At Sophos, she works closely with the global PR/social media team and Sophos X-Ops to uncover and publicize attacker behaviors to help organizations better their defenses. Sara also works with just about every department at the company and oversees every aspect of PR and earned social media, from breaking news and profile development to product launches, threat research and critical communications. She has decades of experience as a media strategist, building, increasing or pivoting awareness of businesses, products, personalities, and reputations in the press.

Oct 2021 - Present

Senior Director Public Relations

Jul 2020 - Oct 2021

Director, Global Public Relations

Greater Boston Area

As noted, my role at Sophos started as a "retirement job," like Robert De Nero in movie The Intern. ;) But, one thing led to another and the rest is history, i.e., read above, for more details. The biggest goal at this point was streamlining PR globally and shaping up Sophos' threat intelligence for press interest and to strengthen company positioning.

Mar 2019 - Jul 2020

Senior Pr Manager, Americas

Boston

This position started as a "retirement job" with a less intense schedule that enabled me to keep eye on my #ChiariKid. Digging in: I managed PR operations for the Americas - everything from setting strategy for global product rollouts to fielding media requests on deadline. While we work with a stellar PR agencies for media relations, I was still very much in the trenches working with press and developing stories for Sophos' innovative technology, brilliant executives and security experts, ground breaking products, and the latest cyber threats (the fun stuff). As noted, my passion is developing news and feature stories, and having a journalism background (with decades of PR experience), I focused a lot of my time on making sure the materials we provided to the media was fact-based, authentic, interesting and appropriate for a reporter's specific beat and relevant to what's happening in the cyber security landscape. People who follow this space know it is extremely fast-paced and ever changing. We strive to provide media with commentary and perspective on issues and questions we've pitched out proactively or are handling reactively in a timely manner and on editorial deadline. We work with channel, business, IT trade/tech and security media, as well as national and local television and radio outlets domestically and from all around the world. If you're a journalist reading this, we'd love to connect and hear about the stories you're writing.

Mommajam, Parenting Correspondent

Boston

What started in 2008 as a national podcast - produced from my own recording studio and featuring guest interviews - quickly turned into a live parenting radio segment that aired weekly on 95.9 WATD-FM. Starting in 2010, I corresponded for WATD's South Shore Morning News, Thursdays at 7:10 a.m. ET, with show co-hosts Rob Hakala and Lisa Azizian. This 5 minute talkfest covered what's hot and what's not for moms, including upbeat topics that I dubbed "MOP" Culture (mom pop culture): fun activities with kids, mom style and fashion - think playground chic - entertainment, cooking, fitness, health, mom's weekends, family day trips, stay-cations, exploring Boston, kids and technology, and more. We had a lot of laughs and provided great insights into motherhood, ages and stages, mom bloopers, current events - you name it, we covered it. For several years, Burtons Grill in Hingham, Mass., was our MommaJam sponsor - we love Burtons Grill. For this wonderful client, I developed radio campaigns, wrote ad copy and developed promotions to tie in with MommaJam each week. I also worked with Burtons Grill to create MommaJam features with food tastings in the studio, chef interviews, back to school lunch ideas, fall flavors and cooking projects, ways to help kids with food allergies enjoy dining out (Burtons Grill is one of the first restaurants in Greater Boston to cater to customers with food allergies), and more. Burtons Grill has a fantastic B Choosy Kids Menu, which my own kids enjoyed ordering from until they got big enough to notice the grown up menu - although they still sometimes order from the B Choosy Menu and circle the sides they want.

Jan 2013 - Jan 2016

Food & Lifestyle Correspondent, South Shore Living Magazine

Hyannis, Mass

Taking a break from PR to return to my journalist roots... At this time in my career, I was a food and lifestyle reporter for this glossy monthly magazine on Boston's South Shore. I wrote numerous feature articles, including two cover stories: Girls Guide to Grilling, inspired by a girls weekend in Palm Springs, Calif., that nearly resulted in our rental home burning down due to a collective lack of grilling experience amongst 10 women and too much wine (a bad combination), and Half-Pint Guide to Zen, which profiled ways kids can overcome anxiety, physical injury and/or other ailments through equine healing, yoga and nutrients. This cover story was inspired by helping my son Mikko recover from brain and spinal cord decompression surgery for Chiari II Malformation and Syringomyelia (fellow moms, DM me!)Here is a sample of other long-form articles I wrote for South Shore Living:~ Culinary Arts in Schools, December, 2015~ Harbor Hopping for Ultimate Dock and Dine Destinations, July 2015~ Farm to Table Thanksgiving, November 2014~ Gourmet Breakfast in Bed, June 2014~ Green Heroes, April 2014~ The Stretching Meals Project, January 2014~ Raising Healthy Kids Cover Story, October 2013~ Winter Wonderland: Exploring the Blue Hills, December 2012~ Food Lovers Guide from A to Z, June 2012~ Girls Guide to Grilling, June 2012 Cover Story~ Geocaching 101: High Tech Hunt, October 2011~ Lunch Lessons: Healthy Back to School Lunches, September 2011~ DOGA: Going Zen with Your Dog and Yoga, August 2011I've also wrote a review of the Boston restaurant TRADE and a sidebar on Packing the Perfect Picnic to augment a feature on summer food excursions. As a feature/profile writer at South Shore Living, I interviewed numerous sources and fact-checked hundreds of details to provide correct pricing, locations, URLS, and other tiny, important details to ensure story accuracy. I also provided creative/photo shoot ideas based on the angles and sources in each story.
