I earned my Masters in Library and Information Science through the Kent State University MLIS program and am a newly minted New York State certified public librarian. From August of 2009 I worked at the Denville Public Library in Denville, NJ as the adult program coordinator. In that time I organized, publicized and launched well over 100 lectures, classes, musical and theatrical performances. I am currently employed as a reference librarian at the Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton, NY.Though I am a lifelong library lover and supporter finding my way into library work and taking the steps to earn my MLIS were somewhat accidental. It was not until I was offered my first position that I began to understand how necessary public libraries are to a community beyond being just a place to take out books and how much I wanted to be a part of maintaining their traditions while also working to bring them into the 21st century.I am fiercely passionate in my desire to see public libraries take their place as community centers where anyone has access not just to information but to entertainment, education and people they can connect with who can teach them how to find what they need, not just hand it to them. What my work and now my education have taught me is that we are only as limited in the services we can provide as we allow ourselves to be.
