Care for dogs and cats within shelter. Work includes cleaning kennels/cages, feeding (including preparing special diets and medications), exercising the animals, vaccinating new animals, making notes on animal behavior, diet, and health changes, preparing intake, foster, and adoption forms, educating clients and the public about the shelter, and assisting veterinarians during more complex procedures.

Maintained parks within the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Work included updating trailhead kiosks, checking up on public trails, interacting with the public and campground hosts, restocking of supplies for campground hosts, in the office, and at our main field station, collecting money from fee tubes, inputting it into Excel and POSS (Point Of Sale System), transporting money to a local bank, maintaining the government vehicles driven, and cleaning restrooms. Also became a Forest Protection Officer (FPO), giving me the ability to write violations and warnings for Class B misdemeanors (36 CFR Part 261).Certifications acquired: US Forest Service Collection Officer and Forest Protection Officer.

Collected and processed data on the Trinidadian guppy, Poecilia reticulate, within streams located in the mountainous regions of Trinidad for an on-going mark-recapture study funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) through its Integrative Biological Research (FIBR) program.Field work included hiking to streams every month and collecting guppies for transport back to the lab. Data on the guppies and stream reach and morphology were recorded in the field.Lab work proceeded after the last day of field collection for each stream, involving a team of 6 people marking fish, reading marks, recording data, and performing other functions. I anesthetized the fish before they were processed and recorded data on each marked and unmarked fish as they went through the line.Additional work included caring for the fish being held in the lab during processing days, including daily water changes and health checks on all tanks.

Maintained collection of tropical freshwater snails (Biomphalaria glabrata) used in studying the schistosomiasis parasite. Work included cleaning, filling, and preparing/treating tanks as well as feeding. Also performed basic lab work including autoclaving and washing lab equipment, preparing pipettes, and stocking of supplies in the labs.

Assisted with maintenance of extensive collection of snakes, lizards, amphibians, insects, birds, and other wildlife. Work involved feeding, cleaning, first aid, and breeding programs. Assisted with public education programs including giving tours of the facility, and staffing educational booths in the Corvallis area and at the Oregon State Fair.

Assisted with ghost shrimp (Neotrypaea californiensis) research project. Maintained hatchery facility, recorded and performed various water quality tests, prepared different food treatments for larval shrimp (rotifers & artemia), helped set up and run experiments, collected shrimp in the field.

General animal husbandry and care, implemented breeding program, selected and prepared mice for sale to labs, pet stores, and spotted owl researchers.

Assisted PhD student by caring for rockfish used in her research on rockfish barotrauma.Observed fish behavior, conducted water quality tests, recorded data daily, general fish and tank care.
