I’m a second-year Penn State University student studying Public Relations at the Bellisario School of Communication with a minor in Media Studies and an intention to obtain my Smeal Certificate. My journey began in Philadelphia as a student intern at KYW Newsradio. Through this experience, I developed skills in interviewing, news writing, and collaboration. This experience allowed me to better understand the media industry and connect with many useful professionals in the field.This summer, I had the experience of working in my hometown in pool and lifeguard management. In this position, I strived to maintain a positive pool environment for all patrons, as well ensuring employee satisfaction and ensuring effective work from all employees. This role allowed me to develop my skills in time management, scheduling, and employee relations, as well as customer relations.Currently on campus, I am involved in the Media Development Committee for Penn State THON, where I am able to act collaboratively and creatively to compose articles in promotion of THON’s efforts. In this role, I also serve as social media chair to drive engagement and design media graphics in support of our committee, all in pursuit of finding a cure for childhood cancer.I also have just begun a new position within my sorority as Vice President of New Member Education. Through this opportunity, my responsibility is to help new members navigate the recruitment process and to assist the members in adjusting to our chapter. I am also in charge of educating all new members of our chapter and sorority as a whole, setting them up for success in our chapter. This role will allow me to develop my skills in event planning, interpersonal communication, and leadership.With a variation of experiences and skills from these experiences, my goal is to work within the Public Relations industry with a focus on social media to promote businesses. I aspire to work within the sports industry and grow my knowledge of business functioning. Through these goals, I hope to bring the visions of companies and sports teams to their audiences in a way that positively affects the reputation and public perception of their organization, as well as maintaining their brand and image.
