As a Director of Policy and Advocacy I was responsible for managing the international affairs and social entrepreneurship client portfolios, partnering with organizations to develop and execute their advocacy and policy strategy. Some of my clients included the ONE Campaign, America Achieves and Youth Villages.Since joining The Sheridan Group in 2006, I managed a diverse array of successful advocacy efforts. In 2007, I formed and launched the Action Group to End Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery, an unprecedented advocacy coalition comprised of diverse organizations. Within two years of formation, the coalition successfully included significant policy reform in the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, which transformed U.S. government prevention and response to human trafficking in the U.S. and abroad. In 2009 and 2010, I partnered with America Forward to successfully advocate for a $50 million appropriation for the Social Innovation Fund. As part of this effort, I worked with individual social entrepreneurs and the America Forward coalition to educate policymakers on the principles of the innovation agenda and mechanisms of the Fund. I also worked with Youth Villages, a child welfare organization that implements an intensive in-home services program keeping children with their families and helping them build long-term successful paths. In September 2011, the Child and Family Services Improvement and Innovation Act passed, which authorizes state waivers to utilize federal funding to develop innovative alternative services promoting permanency for children.
