Under Dr. John Markert I've conducted independent research to better understand the properties of a material (Rare Earth Nickel Oxides). This material has possible applications in solutions to long-term energy problems.Improved synthesis methods in both high hydrostatic pressure and high oxygen pressure.Mentored incoming undergraduates and advised them on their research projects.

Responsible for introducing freshmen to the Markert Lab, helping the freshmen synthesize the YBCO superconductor, and becoming comfortable working in a lab. Also, I teach the students how to read and understand scientific papers as well as basic concepts in solid-state physics. Paid position for 6-8 hours a week.

Worked as part of the teaching team for a wide variety of entry physics-level courses. I really enjoy teaching physics and improving my teaching skills. The work entails holding regular office hours for students to come and ask questions and teaching extra credit material as requested by the professor. Currently working under Dr. Lena Kourkoutis on understanding the strain on PbSe quantum dots using electron microscopy.
