About Sara J. Luneau, Lcmhc

Child therapist with fourteen years experience, dedicated to providing therapy to children encouraging full engagement. I utilize my trauma-informed background integrating play therapy and dyadic developmental therapy modalities. I apply a child centered stance and weave in directive models to establish an inter-personal process to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development. My integrative approach of utilizing expressive therapies of art, play, and talking allow the client to communicate feelings and work toward processing traumas so that the client can move forward with a positive sense of well-being. I am mindful of individuality and base treatment on the needs of the client. Anxiety, anger, ADHD, attachment, friendship challenges, abuse, mood regulation, and family relational problems that children and adolescents are struggling with can be addressed in a place that is safe and offers purposeful play. I have been trained in Progressive Counting for trauma resolution.

Specific components of the job are service planning and coordination with schools, the Vermont Department of Children and Family Services and other agencies to ensure that the needs of the child and family are in place. I attended 504 and IEP meetings acting as an advocate for the family and as a liaison between the parents and the school. In-home work focused on parenting skills to support the behaviors and create a positive family system. Providing caregiver affect management skills supports positive parenting and increases a parent's ability to manage the family. Skills work with the children in the home and across settings focused on affect identification, affect expression, and self-modulation skills which increased coping skills and built self-esteem. Providing psycho-education of the various mental illnesses and aspects of trauma occured between myself and parents, caregivers, the child, and educators creating a thriving environment for the child. I facilitated team meetings including Coordinated Service Plans and completed paperwork for Medicaid and the State of Vermont. Crisis plans, behavior plans and individual plans of care were created and implemented. Show less
