Given the opportunity to join the Back Office department, I was leading the Project Portfolio and the Project Managers for Custody while hands-on delivering programs (Aladdin, international regulatory programs). Soon the responsibilities were enlarged to lead the Custody and Asset Servicing Engineering Teams (Mainframe PL/1 and New Tech).I stabilised the environment (people, support and technology risks) and shaped the strategic way towards modernization and innovation, protected the know-how franchise and pushed engineering excellence and agile transformation.I hadn’t anticipated how much I would enjoy learning Back Office technology and business and how fast I could establish honesty, respect and empower the teams. Engagements in apprentice education and colleagues coaching continue to be my heart project.

One of my best business clients endorsed the opportunity to work at the forefront of Corporate & Institutional Clients. I was very excited to add value by combining my technical and trading expertise with corporate and institutional banking know-how. After delivering initial strategic programs (funds software evaluation, new business), I was appointed to drive the overall Business & IT strategic roadmap/investments because trust was damaged. I re-established the partnership and the results showed significant benefits in cost reduction, improved internal/external partnerships and balance sheet optimization. Afterwards I was tasked to stabilise the most important client program after delay and budget overrun. Trust was rebuilt, issues solved and the Client Rollout started. The learning curve was steep by acquiring deep business know-how while getting proficient in conflict solving and people leadership.

After the successful lifecycle of thousands of operating systems across the bank, my internal network was growing and I was given the opportunity to lead software development teams:Funds IT across Luxembourg and Zurich: Production Stability was my main focus to guarantee the regulatory critical daily NAV (net asset value), beside supporting the consolidation of two platforms into a single stack and being accountable for the successful offshore enablement of the teams.This was a great time of learning about contract mgmt, outsourcing, operating models and how to manage task forces.Trade Floor IT (SQL, .Net, Java): We were the front-runners of agile software development using TDD, Xtreme Programming and CI/CD.This time was really intense in learning about innovative agile practices, software quality, automated testing and as one application was developed from scratch, also a great deal about Structured Products and how they are set-up and lifecycled.

Head Provisioning Compute As the Credit Suisse Network mgmt was outsourced to Swisscom I was recommended a new opportunity in the Server Provisioning area. I thought this to be a great move to increase my IT know-how with the delivery of hardware, storage, databases and operating systems skills. The challenge was the just performed integration of First Boston into Credit Suisse and the many teams doing the same - as well as the increasing demand of IT capacity. I ensured the integration of several teams and processes into a single process and team and established the global capacity control (at this point of time cloud was not ready, but we were already pre-provisioning containers and database-clusters). Head Lifecycle Operating SystemsAfter my maternity leave, the challenge arose that there was a huge delay in server lifecycle mgmt: With a very small team I implemented an easy but highly effective global process and we were able to lifecycle thousands of servers within a short timeframe. Here I learnt so much about supply chain, process efficiencies and controls.

I started my IT Career Start Program with the great support of a wonderful mentor recommending to fill “my rucksack with as much know-how as possible”. This advice continues to echo throughout my career, acquiring know-how is what I love most and enables the best decisions.
