    As PhD student I worked on the practical implementation of a polarisation-encoding quantum key distribution (QKD) system. This included writing and optimizing a polarisation state generation algorithm, developing an algorithm for the frame synchronisation of QKD systems, implementing gradient-based optimisation methods for the compensation of polarisation drift, and the implementation of a deterministic polarisation compensation method. Additionally I have worked on studying the effect of atmopheric turbulence on the transmission of quantum optical signals through free-space channels.
