Mechanical Engineer
Led the development and design of 3 retraction mechanisms and the guided separation system for the Mars Sample Return entry and descent separations system. Design work included creating the initial NX design, preliminary stress analysis, GD&T, drawing creation, creating requirements, and leading formal design reviews.Collaborated with multi disciplinary teams to set requirements and create viable solutions across the spacecraft for retraction mechanisms. Designed and operated a series of tests to assess the harness retractor’s force capability and create system requirements to maintain a force margin that conforms to best practices. Utilized MATLAB and ADAMS to analyze the instantaneous dynamic location of components during the separation event.Collaborated with bearing vendors and internal subject matter experts to select the ideal bearing design and materials for the guided spacecraft separation system. Analyzed the bearing contact stresses to optimize the bearing size.Designed tests to assess detrimental yielding due to contact stresses to inform analysis models.Test Engineer on the largest supersonic parachute and mortar systems fired.Coordinated test logistics, including test schedule and personnel support to perform at the vendor’s facilities.Wrote and developed test procedures, ensuring personnel and hardware safety during the test build and operation. Ordered and tracked hardware prior to testing, and directed and supported technicians during assembly.
Mechanical Engineering Intern
Created a FEM application to evaluate multiple designs of Cybertruck’s front recovery hook geometry based on various loading conditions.Developed a weld characterization program for fatigue life studies. Collaborated with subject matter experts to define key testing parameters.
Mechanical Engineering Intern
Developed multiple passive latching mechanisms for a containment vessel on the Mars Sample Return mission.Created a sizing tool in MATLAB that allows for multiple designs and sensitivity studies to be performed for a particular design space.Conducted a trade study on multiple mechanisms to evaluate their ability to meet project requirements. Designed and developed two mechanism prototypes to characterize the design architecture and aid in risk reduction for the flight hardware designs
Aeromechanics Intern
Validating Solid Works finite element analysis to confirm estimated payloads for the potential Mars Science Helicopter designs. In particular, conducting physical experiments and hand calculations as well as performing ANSYS simulations to confirm the analysis of composite structures in Solid Works. Developing a locking and actuating mechanism for the folding arms of a potential Mar Science Helicopter design. This includes designing, prototyping, and testing different actuation and locking mechanisms in order to narrow down on a single design.
Product Development Intern
Received a Record of Invention, which is in the process of being patented for modifyingdesign and creating a prototype for a new device.Created an application to measure crash loads based on varying steering columndimensions. Modeled new design innovations to improve existing products. Fine-tunedcurrent designs and lead testing to evaluate their improvements. Designed a test toevaluate and improve crash worthiness test.
Calculus Tutor
I work with students to create lesson plans based on their needs in the course. By tutoring multiple students in a session I have picked up good communication skills. By tutoring calculus I have improved my ability to think on my feet when answer questions or solving new problems.
Mechanical Engineering Intern
Lead a safety project to create and hang valve tags for all the manual valves on the power plant. This ensures safety when working with valves. In order to do this, I had to create an efficient process to create, verify and hang the tags. With this I created over 2,000 tags and worked with outside operators to hang and verify them. I worked to red line and update the drawings that were out of date to ensure proper management of change. I gained hands on experience with installing and calibrating instrumentation and controls equipment. I repaired multiple instruments, from solenoids to sophisticated analyzers. I used quality assurance tools to find root causes and countermeasures for under performing systems. By being on the plant and outside I have seen how a combined cycle plant works and details behind its operation. I worked outside operators to see the ins and outs of the power plant. Overall I believe that I was able to experience each aspect of the power plant giving me a broad experience.
Child Care
I worked with a classroom of 20 young children everyday, and constructed new lesson plans for the week to carry out. Working with young children taught me patience and organization, because they need constant attention to stay happy and well behaved. This also taught accountability since my coworkers relied on me to do my part so the day would run smoothly.
Hostess
Interacted with customers to fulfill their needs in an appropriate time frame. On busy days I learned how to communicate with waitstaff and busboys to help seat customers in an efficient way to guarantee customer satisfaction.
