She has a drive and desire for technology that is characteristic of successful administrators in this field. She's always willing to learn new concepts and is quite resourceful. She is also a blast to work with and should have no problems fitting in with any team. For her internship project, we decided to have Sara address our need for proper network monitoring so we could achieve our transition to being proactive in our approach to IT management. Sara implemented the SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor and configured the necessary SNMP traps to allow us to monitor not only our network status, but also to automatically generate help desk tickets in RemedyForce based upon flagged issues as well as display the flagged problem on our IT room television, complete with a detailed map of our organization with status indicators. Thanks to her efforts, our ability to monitor the network was completely changed and allowed us to notice problems before our end users even knew there was a problem. We now call SilverSky (formerly SillSecure) to let them know of a network outage rather than SilverSky calling us. In addition to the SolarWinds project, Sara also assisted Director of IT Ian Rudy in analyzing our network in our quest to resolve the problems in the existing network infrastructure we inherited. This task included combing through the Cisco core switches and tracing wires to determine where our cabling was actually patched since many of the ports throughout the office are mislabeled. Her legwork in this is valuable in helping us correct our network connectivity problems. Sara also assisted in performing the early stages of our PC refresh; prepping, imaging and deploying many of the Dell Precision T3600 workstations while I was busy creating software packages and performing my other assigned duties. Her involvement with this refresh process directly contributed to making the successful PC refresh possible in the 3 month time span, despite moving from Windows Deployment Services (with all software baked into the image) to our new image on BMC FootPrints Asset Core with software deployed on a per user basis. As we enjoyed Sara's time with us during the summer, we extended her internship into her Senior year at Pitt." and "During Sara’s internship over the last few months she has displayed excellent collaboration and troubleshooting skills, has consistently performed her duties with competence and often goes the extra mile, doing more than expected even while faced with numerous challenges.
