My interest in Emergency and Disaster Management began when I was child and my dad volunteered with our county rescue squad. His dedication and volunteer work along with his own career in civil service sparked a lifelong interest in civil service.I began my foray into civil service by majoring in Atmospheric Sciences (with a concentration in weather forecasting) and subsequently joining the National Weather Service. My time with the NWS furthered my interest in emergency management through constant collaboration with our local emergency managers and by working countless severe weather incidents. My areas of special interest included the upper-air, cooperative network, and hydrology programs.I left my role with the NWS to accompany my active-duty husband to Japan. Even though I was unable to continue in a weather forecasting role, I volunteered as a US Navy Command Ombudsman where I was the primary communication link between command families and leadership. During my career break to focus on parenting, I began to consider my career options once my husband retired from active military service, and I decided to capitalize on my interest in emergency management and to pursue a graduate degree. I am freshly graduated with a MA in Emergency and Disaster Management, I've begun to volunteer with Team Rubicon, and I am ready to begin working as an emergency management specialist!
