I was born in Italy. As a young teenager, I aspirationally called myself a citizen of the world and dreamt of becoming a professor in some internationally well-known university. Though that dream did not materialize, in the process I have lived and studied in the Netherlands, Canada and the United States. I have also learnt a great deal about Canadian public policy, and spent the better part of the last decade analyzing it, measuring it, writing about it, learning and teaching about it, and overall thinking deeply about why this matters. I am now a senior public sector leader. Why? Because I have learnt that the delivery of quality, reliable and consistent public services and a well-governed public sector play a key role in shaping residents’ and citizens’ trust in democratic institutions. As democracy is increasingly challenged around the world, achieving and maintain that trust is more important than ever before.Skills that I have mastered throughout my life and career journey include thinking strategically, managing complex projects, improving business processes, building relationships across sectors, coaching teams through change and, generally, getting things done.Skills that I am committed to master through everyday learnings from the school of life include wisdom, introspection and self-awareness, kindness and grace in the face of duress, and the radical humility required to be both a great leader and a good human.
