As a classroom teacher of 19 years and an elementary school principal for the past eight years, It concerned me that students struggled with and hated writing. I wanted to change that.I wanted to empower students and give them a place to to share their voice.I wanted to be able to help students write professional essays that would instill pride and confidence in them. I embarked on a mission to find curricula to help students and teachers learn to teach and write essays. I found, interestingly enough, that there were very few writing programs that guided students through the learning process.The programs that I found were cumbersome. They were difficult for teachers to use and usually did not produce an end product that inspired confidence in the student. So I set out to write my own curriculum for my students. THE CHQ WRITING PROGRAMS were born! The programs consist of 10 writing workbooks. Each workbook covers a genre of writing. The programs are geared for students in grades 3 through 8.
