Advised by Dr. Patrick Belmont and Dr. Brendan Murphy. Research aims to improve predictive modeling of post-fire debris flow grain size distributions and volumes to better inform how post-fire erosion impacts downstream water resources. Research included field data collection, spatial data extraction and analysis, statistical modeling, and scientific writing. -
Wilderness RangerU.S. Forest Service Jun 2019 - Oct 2019North Bend, Washington, United StatesStudent Conservation Association Intern with U.S. Forest Service in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, WA. Research AssistantUniversity Of Oregon Jun 2018 - Sep 2018Eugene, Oregon, United StatesWorked in Dr. Josh Roering’s Earth Surface Processes Lab at UO. Conducted fieldwork on a post-fire debris flow in the western Cascades. The data I collected in the field has gone toward my senior thesis at Carleton College. The research aimed to characterize this particular post-fire debris flow that was initiated by excess overland flow. • Led mapping efforts of entire debris flow, which included walking the entire periphery of flow, recording GPS points, measurements of erosional features and qualitative observations. Used GIS to make maps from the collected GPS data and to conduct spatial analyses.• Collected soil infiltration rate data using a minidisk infiltrometer. Over 30 data points collected.• Conducted sediment budget of the deposition, by measuring depths of deposit across the depositional area.• Constructed 3-dimensional models of hillslopes and surface roughness using structure for motion software Agisoft Photoscan. • This research resulted in a publication in the journal Landslides -
Tour GuideSeattle City Light Jun 2017 - Aug 2017North Cascades National Park, WaProvided guide services for Seattle City Light’s Skagit Tours and staffed the Skagit Information Center in Newhalem, WA in the North Cascades National Park.
