The Communication Workers of America is a labor union that represents over 700,000 workers across the country. CWA represents members from many different industries and sectors including telecommunications, airlines, news media, broadcast television and more. As the Program Lead for the Customer Service Program, Sara serviced our roughly 100,000 customer service members who work in call centers, retail stores and airline passenger service. The program provides leadership development opportunities and engages members to take action in strategic campaigns. It also supports internal organizing efforts, researches key issues in the telecommunications sector to provide contract bargaining support, and hosts an online community of activists.Sara also led a pilot program designed to specifically engage customer service members in CWA's political and legislative campaigns. This pilot program built a cadre of activists around the state of North Carolina who grew their political coffers, mobilized over 1,000 fellow customer service members to take action, and lobbied in the state capitol on key legislation impacting the customer service industry. She also was recruited by the state AFL-CIO to run one of the state's three regional election efforts in the 2018 elections.

The AFL-CIO is a federation of 55 national and international labor unions that represents over 12.5 million working people. As Popular Education Coordinator, Sara led the recruitment and delivery of a national train-the-trainer program for a mass class consciousness education program used as a tool to engage members in campaigns. She also engaged with state and local AFL-CIO federations to track, mentor, and provide assistance to our over 500 field trainers. This helped prepare organizers and activists for the 2016 election cycle. She was also deployed to Florida for 3 months during the 2016 election to lead the education program and participate in direct voter engagement.

As Member Engagement Coordinator, Sara developed and implemented strategies to build partnerships between the labor movement and youth organizations focused on engaging 18-35 year olds in electoral and issue-based campaigns. She also assisted in the development of the national economic platform, "Working for our Future", which outlined the road map to a future that will allow younger generations to grow and thrive. She also supported the leadership development of union members aged 18-35 years old across the country through structured organizational and leadership development.

As a Fellow in the Civil, Human and Women's Rights Department, Sara advanced the priorities and programs of the AFL-CIO through a civil rights lens by engaging international and national union affiliates and constituency groups in national campaigns, an annual conference of over 1,000 attendees, and cultural programs. This work included electoral components to promote basic voting rights and member-to-member engagement in the field, through direct voter contact, for several weeks in Kentucky for the 2014 midterm election.

The Sacramento Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO is a regional AFL-CIO labor body that is governed by 90 local labor unions, representing 147,000 working people across 6 counties in the Sacramento area. The Sacramento CLC brings together these diverse unions and coordinates with local community partners to take action on local and statewide political and legislative issues.As Field Mobilization Director, Sara built relationships and mobilized local union leaders, staff and community leaders, and activists to take action in political and issue campaigns, legislative actions, and union solidarity events. In 2014, she co-led the labor council's election work in the Sacramento region which mobilized hundreds of union volunteers for over a dozen state and local races.
