I have been a Youth Specialist at Lighthouse Youth Sanctuary since February 2023. I was hired in during the transition from Common Ground to Lighthouse, so I have helped rebuild the program from the ground up. From painting ceilings to writing updated protocols, I have had experience with multiple levels of practice at this agency. My duties as a Youth Specialist include leading groups, creating and maintaining a home like environment, guiding the youth to maintain hygiene, encouraging youth to complete homework, and family reunification. We are a consent based and trauma informed agency. I have completed the BSW program through Oakland University and was able to do my internship at Lighthouse Youth Sanctuary as a case manager for our Temporary Living Program. My duties included assessing, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating actions required to meet the youth’s health and human services needed.My passion for helping at-risk youth stems from a desire to provide them with the support and guidance that I may have needed during my own difficult times. By offering them hope, encouragement, and a sense of personal resilience, I aim to empower them to overcome their obstacles and challenges. Witnessing these young people find the strength and determination to fight for a better future can be incredibly inspiring and motivating, driving me to continue my work with them.
