Research Area: Resource Management and Economics of Cloud ComputingSupervisor: Dr Marc St-HilaireThesis Title : A User Relinquishment-aware Resource Assignment Model to Maximize the Net Profit of Cloud Service ProvidersContributions:• Conducted a three-phase research work under the supervision of Professor Marc St-Hilaire for strategic allocation of the computing resources to maximize the net profit of cloud service provider• Phase 1: Proposed a mathematical model that calculates the opportunity cost loss of the cloud service providers; Evaluated it in open-source simulation framework: CloudSim (using JAVA) • Model was published in 24th International Conference on Telecommunication (ICT 2017), Limassol, Cyprus, pp. 1-6, May 2017 • Phase 2: Implemented Linear Regression (a machine learning technique) to predict the user behavior based upon the user history; Used Java and Octave to carry out results • Phase 3: Based upon the predicted user behavior, proposed an optimization model for resource estimation to minimize the opportunity cost loss; evaluated the model using Java API of IBM CPLEX• Implemented all the three phases collectively and performed the simulations for optimal resource assignment by using inbuilt packages and interfaces in CloudSim using JAVA • Consolidated the entire research work into the graduate thesis
